  Solar Thermal

Solar water heating systems use free heat from the sun to warm domestic hot water. A conventional boiler or immersion heater is then used to make the water hotter, or to provide hot water when solar energy is unavailable.

These systems are significantly cheaper than the Solar PV.

How it works

Solar water heating systems use solar panels, called collectors, fitted to the roof. These collect heat from the sun and use it to warm water which is stored in a hot water cylinder.

There are two types of solar water heating panels, they are evacuated tubes; and flat plate collectors.

Flat plates collectors can be fixed on the roof tiles or integrated into the roof.

A boiler or immersion heater can be used as a back up to heat the water further to reach the temperature set by the cylinders thermostat when the solar water heating system does not reach that temperature. (The cylinder thermostat should be set at 60 degrees centigrade.)

hPASS will see you through from start to finish using our own fully trained installers.
Long term benefits

Savings are moderate - a solar water heating system can reduce water heating bills by between £50 and £85 per year. It will also save up to 570kg of CO2 emissions, depending on what fuel it will be replacing.

Maintenance costs are very low. You need to take a look at the panels every year and they need to be checked by us every 3-5 years.

What do I get for this?

You will receive a fully installed and working Solar Thermal panel. The cost includes installation and materials including 24-hour support from our team at hPASS. There is nothing further to pay on the quoted price providing all details are correct.

Savings at a glance

Savings can be considerable around 1 tonne of CO2 a year. A 2.2 kWp system can generate around 40% of a household's yearly electricity needs. If the system is eligible to receive the Feed In Tariff it could generate savings and income of around £900 per year.

These payments are in addition to the savings you make by not having to buy all your electricity from a supplier.
