The new change is part of the government's Green Deal.       From 1st April 2012, a new Domestic Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) will be launched providing significant improvement on the current version.       What's changed?     The new EPC has been redesigned to make it easier to read, showing key information on the first page of the EPC.   It is also focused around the Green Deal, which is expected to be launched in October 2012. Therefore the new EPC identifies the key features of the energy efficiency recommendations by showing a green tick where relevant. Furthermore, references to specified energy usage and carbon emmisions ratings have been removed from the front page (this is becuase the public has seen not to be interested in this information).   The new EPC will be a central part of the Green Deal strategy, it will provide the starting point for the instigation of any new Green Deal financing to cover the cost of the recommendations for energy efficiency improvement.   Therefore the new EPC will predominantly serve two main purposes: A legal document for home owner(s) to market their property for sale or rent … no change from the current legislation. The new EPC will now include some of the data collection which was usually only required for commercial properties.         Who can undertake my new EPC?     In order for current Domestic Energy Assessors (DEAs) to undertake the new Energy Performance Certificate (EPC), they will be required to retrain. Those who do not retrain and get re-qualified will not be able to undertake the new EPC. Home owners who purchase an EPC after 1st April 2012 should ensure their energy surveyor is qualified to undertake the new EPC.   All of our in-house energy surveyors have retrained and are fully qualified to undertake the new Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs). For more information call 0845 26 96 106.     How much will the new EPC cost?   The cost of the new EPC will be on average £85.00 (as suggested by the training company), this will reflect the additional work required to produce the EPC. On average it will take about one hour to survey the property and input the data to generate the new EPC, excluding travelling time.
